Golden Totara
N.Z. native. Is becoming more and more popular each year especially for shelter. Stock have no desire to eat the prickly foliage unless really forced to and with trimming it stays clothed right to the ground. Responds extra well to heavy trimming therefore totara can be kept to almost any size or shape required. Eventually developes into a particularly spectacular shelter tree. The new foliage in spring gradually deepens it’s golden colour to be at it’s best in winter. Arguably N.Z’s most under rated tree. Dislikes wet sites. Where there are animals, double fencing is still essential. Approx. 10 year height as shelter 5 metres. Plant 1 metre apart.
